Deadlines, and why I can’t seem to stick to…
I had a plan. It was called The Plan (v2.0). Things did not go according to plan…
OK, so it’s more the list of deadlines that I’m having trouble with. But that just wouldn’t have been as equally awesome in terms of blog post opening lines. So, anyway, I had a list. It was a nice list. A list of things I wanted to get done, and dates I wanted to get them done by. Seems to work fine in November, so there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work the rest of the year either. Except, you know, the fact that I apparently suck at deadlines 11 out of 12 months of the year. I guess we all know where I’m going with this. Yep, that’s right, I have not handed over the finished third draft of TAO to Catrine. Nor have I finished Remnants.
I really suck at deadlines.
I want to blame it on the dog. On work. On my vacation to Wales in mid-June. But let’s be honest here, I still had lots of time to write and edit. I’m just really bad at managing my time. Which is odd, cause I love organizing, making plans and all that. Just not so good with following said plans I guess. I’ve managed to find time for reading, and in June I watched two seasons of Spartacus, three seasons of Hannibal, and one season of Killjoys, as well as new episodes of my regular shows, and I still had time to walk the dog and surf the net aimlessly.
I have been thinking about my projects though, and I have almost finished writing The Answer at the X, which is good, considering I had planned on finishing that a month ago. With two small chapters left, one of which is written, it just needs some heavy editing, I hope to have the done and posted by the end of the week (or, you know, August).
I’m not sure how to get better at this whole sticking-to-deadlines thing when the month doesn’t end in -ovember, but I’ll find a way. In the meantime, I’ll do what I do best.
Give myself more deadlines.
Dates by which stuff will be done
- July 10th : Finish The Answer at the X and have it posted to Wattpad.
- August 28th : Finish the third draft of The Afterlife Occurrence, and hand it over to Catrine. I’ll probably get her draft of RS around the same time, so reading that and writing comments for it goes without saying, or planning.
- October 16th : Finish Remnants. This includes writing and editing. I want to start posting it online by the end of the year, and the sooner I finish writing, the sooner and I can start posting.
- October 16th – October 31st : Nano planning. Find out what I’m writing this year. Cause right now, I have no idea! If all else fail, finish Remnants during Nano, but since I always stick to my deadlines, this probably won’t be necessary.
So there we have it. Looks easy enough. Should be a walk in the park!
What could possibly go wrong?
